Hot Forming:

Forging: 1050 to 850ºC, slowing cooling in furnace.

Heat Treatment:

Annealing: 820 to 850ºC, slow cooling in furnace (10-20ºC/hr), down to approx. 600ºC, cooling in air. Hardness after annealing: max. 240HB.

Stress relieving: approx. 650ºC, holding time 1 to 2 h, slow cooling in furnace.

Hardening: 950 to 1000ºC, blast; larger section also in oil or hot bath at approx. 350ºC to 450ºC. Hardness obtainable, 63 to 64 HRC.

Tempering: Slowly heating to tempering temperature right after hardening. Recommended to temper 2 or 3 times to increase toughness.

Properties:

Air hardening cold work tool steel. Excellent dimensional stability, age retaining and wear resistance. Good hardenability and toughness.

Applications:

Blanking and punching dies, circular and straight shear blades. Thread cutting tools; stamping and similar tools.
